Great Safe Locksmith Options in Illinois

There are many Chicago Locksmiths, but few who take the time to develop safe technical skills. Nonetheless. Illinois has one of the best licensing and certification programs in the country.

I have a couple of recommendations below and I also give an overview of the relevant trade associations and state of the locksmith law in Illinois.

Illinois Locksmith Laws and Certification Requirements

Locksmiths in Illinois and Chicago are covered by 225 Illinois Compiled Statutes Sec. 445, 1-299 and 68 Illinois Administrative Code, Ch. VII, subchapter b, Part 1240. To make a long story short, there are various background checks and requirements for both individual locksmiths and locksmith stores.

Additionally, there is a 20 hour training requirement and exam prior to becoming licensed. Coming from a state with absolutely no training, background or exam requirement, I find this remarkable. It is good to live in Chicago.

Locksmiths Trade Associations

Chicago actually has its own trade association (versus a state wide organization) called the Greater Chicago – Locksmith Association (www.gclalocksmiths.org). This organization is a member of the Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA).
